Emily Starbuck Gerson lives in Austin, Texas, and holds a communications degree from the University of Texas. In college she interned at Texas Monthly and TRIBEZA magazines and was the top editor of a weekly newspaper that served five colleges, The Austin Student.

After graduating she became an associate at a boutique public relations and marketing firm, Pure Communications. She was then the editorial assistant at CreditCards.com.

Emily is currently a Web copywriter in the travel industry by day and has a large freelance career on the side. She runs a travel blog, Maiden Voyage, and she recently wrote a travel guide about Austin for the small publisher Aberdeen Bay. She is the About.com Guide to Austin and writes for CreditCards.com, ENVY magazine, and several other websites and publications. Emily also assists some businesses with social media efforts.

Throughout her career, Emily has been heavily trained in writing for both journalism and marketing purposes in addition to SEO and social media best practices.

When she's not working, Emily enjoys photography, world travel, reading, volunteering with Cancer Connection, and watching documentaries.
