Emily Starbuck Gerson lives in Austin, Texas, and holds a communications degree from the University of Texas. In college she interned at Texas Monthly and TRIBEZA magazines and was the editor-in-chief of a weekly newspaper that served five colleges, The Austin Student.
After graduating she became an associate at a boutique public relations and marketing firm, Pure Communications. She was then the editorial assistant at CreditCards.com.
In 2008, Emily became an online copywriter in the travel industry. She was promoted to be the Digital Marketing & Communication Manager, a position she currently holds. While she enjoys her day job, Emily has a large freelance career on the side. She runs a travel blog, Maiden Voyage, and blogs weekly for CreditCards.com. Up until recently, she ran About.com's Austin site. Emily consults businesses on social media strategy and manages some of the campaigns herself.
In 2010, Emily was nominated for the Texas Social Media Awards. She has written for About.com (owned by The New York Times Company), TravelIntelligence.com, Soundcheck magazine, Catalogs.com, and a variety of other websites and publications. Emily has been quoted by MSN, The Indianapolis Star, CheapOair.com, FareCompare.com, and more. She is the author of a travel guide about Austin for the small publisher Aberdeen Bay.
